WHAT MAKES AN IMAGE GREAT?
Have you ever taken a photo you love, but then struggled to recreate that magic again when shooting?
The key to consistency is knowing what goes into making an image great! We have to analyze them and break them down like muscles so we can build them back up stronger.
BEFORE
The image above is fine - but it’s nothing special. The tones are nice, the setting is pretty, the couple is smiling at one another, but there’s no spark. There’s no connection!
The couple are facing one another, but the groom is standing awkwardly, with his pelvis thrust forward so his torso is leaning away from the bride, creating a large gap between their faces.
Both the bride and the groom’s hands dangle at their side with no interaction or connection between them. No spark!
AFTER
With this image, I directed the couple to wrap their arms around one another and pull each other close.
The groom has naturally bent his front leg when hugging the bride, which creates a more natural and dynamic shape that implies movement, making the image come alive.
Paying attention to our couples’ body language and giving them subtle art direction cues transforms an image they’ll like into an image they’ll love!
